Turkish champions Galatasaray have completed the signing of German winger Leroy Sané from Bayern Munich, the club announced on Thursday.

The 29-year-old joins as a free agent after his Bayern contract expires this month, ending a five-year spell where he won four Bundesliga titles and eight trophies total.

Sané confirmed his departure in an emotional farewell message to Bayern fans: “After five intense years in Munich, I’m starting a new chapter. I’m proud to have worn this jersey over 200 times and will always cherish our titles together,” he posted on Instagram.

During his Bayern career, the German international scored 61 goals and provided 55 assists across 220 appearances. He previously won two Premier League titles with Manchester City before joining Bayern in 2020.

Galatasaray shared photos of Sané in Istanbul, where he arrived to finalize the move. He becomes their second signing from the Bundesliga after Kerem Demirbay joined from Leverkusen in 2023.

The speedy winger fell out of favor at Bayern this past season despite their Bundesliga triumph. His experience and creativity will boost Galatasaray’s attack as they prepare for next season’s Champions League.

Sané, who has 70 caps for Germany, is expected to be officially unveiled after completing medical tests this week.
