Gabon’s newly-appointed leader, General Brice Oligui Nguema, is set to be officially inaugurated as the “transitional president” on Monday at the constitutional court, according to statements from coup leaders.

Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) spokesperson, announced on state television Thursday that Oligui Nguema intends to introduce transitional governing bodies gradually.

This comes a day after rebel officers successfully ousted President Ali Bongo Ondimba.

The specific timeline for the transitional institutions was not disclosed.

In an effort to maintain stability, all general secretaries, ministerial offices, director generals, and state service officials have been directed to ensure the swift resumption of work and the uninterrupted operation of all public services, as per the spokesman’s instructions.

Furthermore, Gabon’s military leadership has pledged to honor the nation’s domestic and international commitments. The spokesperson emphasized that General Oligui Nguema aims to reassure donors, development partners, and state creditors that all necessary measures will be implemented to uphold Gabon’s obligations at home and abroad.
