The Federal University, Oye Ekiti, has approved the graduation of a female student, Ramota Olahanloye, after resolving allegations that a lecturer, Dr. Anthony Agbegbedia, deliberately failed her for rejecting his sexual advances.
In a statement on Friday, the university’s Special Adviser on Media to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Wole Balogun, confirmed that Olahanloye’s scripts for two final-year courses were re-marked after the allegations were investigated.
“The young lady’s scripts were re-marked, and she performed fairly better than the scores initially awarded by Dr. Anthony Agbegbedia,” the statement read.
With her revised results, Olahanloye has met the requirements to graduate. “The university management has given executive approval for her results to be processed. She has since commenced her final clearance from relevant units of the university,” Balogun added.
The university also sanctioned Dr. Agbegbedia for misconduct. However, the exact details of the disciplinary measures were not disclosed.
Olahanloye expressed her happiness about the resolution. “I am happy that I have gotten justice, and I really appreciate the university Vice-Chancellor for setting up the committee that investigated the matter,” she said.
She also confirmed that her name is now on the graduation list and shared her excitement as she began her clearance process.
Her father, Rasaki Olahanloye, thanked FUOYE for standing for justice. “I can confirm to the world that FUOYE has served justice to my daughter. I was shown her upgraded results after her scripts were re-marked, and it is clear that she passed.
“The university fulfilled its promise to ensure fairness, and I appreciate the VC, Prof. Sunday Fasina, and the committee members for ensuring my daughter gets justice,” he said.
