Panic erupted on Thursday after tanker laden with gasoline on Thursday exploded at the Ijora Pallete Junction beside Lagos State Homes Estate at Ijora Badiya, Lagos State.
The explosion, which sent scores of people scampering for safety, occurred at 1.30 p.m.
An eyewitness said that the attention of the tanker driver was drawn to a leakage by some passersby.
The source said that while the driver consequently got down and attempted to use fire extinguisher, the tanker exploded.
Fire fighters and a team from Ijora Badiya Police Division were on ground to secure lives and property.
They eventually put out the fire.
No life was lost to the accident.
The police have diverted traffic to prevent congestion and prevent hoodlums from attacking innocent citizens.
According to a police officer, who pleaded anonymity, the police responded swiftly to the emergency and contacted the fire service which also responded fast.
