Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has arrived back in Port Harcourt following a recent overseas trip, as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly commenced fresh impeachment proceedings against him last Thursday.

While the government did not officially disclose the reason for the trip, sources familiar with the matter revealed that the governor departed the country on Thursday aboard a private jet, reportedly with plans to meet President Bola Tinubu in France, at a time when political tensions were escalating in the state, according to Ripples Nigeria.

The governor returned on Sunday and was later sighted alongside his deputy at a church service held at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The church service marked the first public outing of Governor Fubara and his deputy since the lawmakers initiated the latest impeachment process against him.

The ongoing impeachment effort represents the third attempt by the Rivers State House of Assembly to remove Governor Fubara from office within a period of less than three years, following allegations of gross misconduct brought against him by the legislators.
