Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the expanded State Executive Council with immediate effect, marking a significant move following his return to office after a six-month suspension enforced during a political crisis.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi. The dissolution affects all commissioners, special advisers, and other public officers who had served in Fubara’s administration prior to the imposition of emergency rule on March 18.
“The governor has relieved all commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The affected officials were originally part of Fubara’s cabinet before they were forced out during the interim administration under Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), who had, upon assuming duty, suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and heads of parastatals, as well as dissolved state boards.
While some observers had anticipated that Governor Fubara might retain a few high-performing cabinet members, others speculated that the influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike—credited with playing a major role in Fubara’s political reinstatement—could shape the composition of the new executive council.
Speaking at a valedictory session in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the outgoing cabinet members for their contributions to the state over the past two years. He praised their service and dedication to public duty during a challenging political period.
In his address, the governor also underscored the importance of national unity and urged Nigerians to work collectively with President Bola Tinubu to ensure a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation.
Reaffirming his commitment to the development of Rivers State, Fubara pledged to serve with renewed energy and thanked citizens for their continued support. He concluded by extending well wishes to Nigerians in celebration of the country’s Independence anniversary.
