The Federal Road Safety Corps in Kwara State has deployed 950 personnel to ensure safety during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin, the FRSC Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Basambo, said the deployment includes 350 special marshals and 120 first responders.

“Sixteen patrol vehicles, two power bikes, four ambulances, four private tow trucks, and a 70-tonne tow truck have been assigned to monitor roads during the festive period,” Basambo stated.

Sector Commander Mufutau Irekeola confirmed that personnel have been stationed at strategic locations within Ilorin and other major cities in the state. The operation, tagged “Operation Zero Tolerance for Road Traffic Crash,” will run from December 15 to January 15, 2025, focusing on protecting lives and property.

Basambo urged motorists to follow traffic regulations during the season. “Drivers should avoid dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, excessive speeding, overloading, and using phones while driving,” she said.

She also warned against driving rickety vehicles, neglecting mechanical deficiencies, and using worn-out tyres.

The FRSC command is conducting public awareness campaigns at motor parks, markets, churches, and mosques. Special patrol operations and traffic control measures are also in place to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

Commander Irekeola sent his goodwill to the people of Kwara, advising caution on the roads. “Motorists should drive carefully because only the living celebrate. We wish everyone a happy Christmas and New Year,” he said.
