The Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, has apprehended over 100 traffic offenders within the last week as part of its ongoing “Operation Green Light Enforcement” in the city centre of Abuja.

FCT Sector Commander, Muta’a Chorrie, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja. He expressed concern over the rampant disregard for traffic lights, particularly by commercial drivers, which has become a recurring issue.

“We arrested 100 traffic offenders within seven days in FCT. We will not relent until sanity is restored on our highways,” Chorrie emphasized.

He also addressed the problem of indiscriminate parking by commercial drivers, noting that the FRSC has intensified patrols to curb such violations.

“The FCT command has been engaging with Transport Union Leaders in regular meetings to address the menace in the six area councils of the territory,” Chorrie added.

Highlighting safety concerns, Chorrie cautioned against overloading vehicles, stressing that such practices not only violate regulations but also pose risks during emergencies.

“With the rainy season setting in, we urge road users to drive within approved speed limits and park at convenient places when the rain is heavy,” he advised.

Chorrie reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to enforcing traffic rules impartially, regardless of the offenders’ status, to enhance road safety and maintain order on the roads.
