2025 will forever be remembered as the year Nigerian entertainment lost all restraint. From marital breakdowns broadcast live on social media to physical altercations on airplanes, from leaked sex tapes to murder convictions, our celebrities gave us more drama than any Nollywood script could contain.

Social media became the stage, and every scandal was performed in real-time for millions of viewers who couldn’t look away.

As we close the chapter on this chaotic year, let’s revisit the most explosive celebrity moments that had Nigeria buzzing, tweeting, and gossiping from January to December.

2Baba & Annie Idibia: The Divorce That Broke Hearts

2Baba ready to write different love story

January marked a sad day when music legend 2Baba announced his separation from Annie Macaulay Idibia after nearly 12 years of marriage.

The Instagram post declaring their divorce was deleted minutes later with claims of being hacked, but 2Baba went live to clarify that no one hacked his account and he meant what he said.

The couple unfollowed each other on social media. By April at the 17th Headies Awards, Annie reintroduced herself as “Annie Macaulay,” dropping the “Idibia” surname entirely.

In a July interview, 2Baba explained, “Annie and I gave it our best. She’s amazing and wonderful, but it just wasn’t working anymore. What we once had is no longer there.”

Mercy Chinwo vs. EeZee Tee: Gospel Music’s Hidden Drama

Gospel music fans were stunned in late January when beloved singer Mercy Chinwo went public with serious allegations against her former label boss, EeZee Tee.

The “Excess Love” crooner accused him of withholding royalties, creating a toxic work environment through emotional manipulation, exploiting her talent while underpaying her, and breaching their contract.

The allegations suggest years of financial and emotional abuse disguised as mentorship.

Burna Boy, Sophia Egbueje Lamborghini Sex-for-Car Scandal

February brought scandal when socialite Sophia Egbueje publicly claimed Grammy-winner Burna Boy promised to buy her a Lamborghini after intimate activities, but never delivered.

According to her account, the promise was made in the heat of the moment, but when morning came, Burna Boy allegedly ghosted her.

Rather than wallowing, Sophia bought her own Lamborghini and posted it across social media with shade-filled captions.

The drama intensified when the luxury car was reportedly delivered by one of Wizkid’s associates, inadvertently dragging Wizkid into the beef. Burna Boy’s response?

He composed a track about the scandal, adding another chapter to his history of addressing controversies through music.

Ijoba Lande, Dara & Baba Tee Nollywood Infidelity Scandal

Truth or Dare: The dangerous s3x game in Nollywood - The Nation Newspaper

March brought one of Nollywood’s messiest public dramas when comedian Ijoba Lande accused his wife Dara of serial infidelity, specifically naming actor Baba Tee as one of her alleged partners.

The accusations were detailed and damaging, dragging the entire Nollywood community into taking sides.

Baba Tee initially denied everything, calling the allegations false and claiming he was being set up.

But as pressure mounted, his story changed dramatically. He issued a public apology admitting to a brief sexual encounter with Dara.

Speed Darlington vs. Burna Boy: Baby Oil, Diddy & Multiple Arrests

There Won't Be Mercy Next Time, Burna Boy Tells Speed Darlington - Rhythm FM

Few feuds generated as much controversy as the battle between Speed Darlington and Burna Boy.

After American mogul Diddy was arrested with authorities reportedly seizing over 1,000 bottles of baby oil, Speed connected Burna Boy to the scandal, asking: “How many baby oils did Diddy use on you before you won that Grammy?”

The implication was damaging—suggesting an inappropriate relationship for career advancement.

Burna Boy petitioned Nigerian police, and Speed was arrested on defamation charges. But even while detained, Speed released a diss track titled “Baby Oil” that went viral on Spotify.

He was arrested a second time, spending weeks in Kuje Correctional Centre before finally getting bail at twenty million naira.

After over two months behind bars, Speed emerged defiant, promising “more Baby Oil content” and telling critics who advised caution to get lost because he spends his own money and nobody could tell him what to post.

Regina Daniels, Ned Nwoko: Gen Z Wife vs Boomers Husband

Ned Nwoko and Regina Daniels

In October, actress Regina Daniels became central to allegations that divided Nigeria. A video surfaced showing Regina distressed, allegedly claiming domestic abuse in billionaire Senator Ned Nwoko’s home. She married Nwoko in 2019 at age nineteen while he was fifty-nine.

Nwoko released a counter-statement claiming Regina was the aggressor under the influence of substances, exhibited violent behavior that damaged property, and that the video was manipulated for sympathy.

AGN President Emeka Rollas appeared to support Nwoko’s version, prompting Regina to fire back about feeling betrayed.

With two contradictory narratives and no independent investigation, the truth remains unclear, with Nigerians hoping for clarity in 2026.

VeryDarkMan vs. Mr Jollof: The Airplane Brawl

November delivered the year’s most absurd moment when social media activist VeryDarkMan and comedian Mr Jollof traded blows on United Nigeria Airlines Flight UN0523 from Asaba to Lagos.

The altercation—triggered by weeks of online beef involving Mr Jollof’s wife—resulted in both men being removed before takeoff.

VDM’s memorable Facebook post read: “MR JOLLOF YOU BIT ME, your fellow man haba.” He posted video evidence of bite marks on his chest, and the absurdity of a grown man biting another during a fight had Nigerians in stitches.

United Nigeria Airlines confirmed both passengers were deboarded and handed to security. The NCAA announced sanctions and potential criminal charges including disrupting flight operations and endangering passenger safety. Both issued apologies the next day.

Burna Boy’s Concert Disaster: When Ego Cost Millions

In November, during his Denver concert, Burna Boy stopped mid-performance after spotting a woman sleeping in premium front-row seats.

“When I see you with your girl sleeping in front of me, it pisses me the fuck off,” he told the crowd. Security escorted the couple out as thousands watched, and the video went viral within hours.

Three days later, the woman Chaltu Jateny revealed she’d been mentally and emotionally drained since her daughter’s father passed away and came to find joy, but left humiliated.

Eminem commented on the viral video: “Yo, this is not cool.” Instead of apologizing, Burna Boy went on Instagram Live saying he was only looking for fans who have money.

Fans started a “sleeping trend” at subsequent shows, ticket sales plummeted, and concerts in Minneapolis and Chicago were cancelled.

Reports confirmed he scrapped five tour dates, losing an estimated two to five million dollars in revenue. His eventual apology felt hollow, focused more on his suffering ticket sales and coffee brand than the woman he humiliated.

2Baba & Natasha: From Fairy Tale to Fallout

2baba, Natasha's wedding photos

What began as 2Baba’s fresh start with Hon. Natasha Osawaru, an Edo State lawmaker, quickly became one of 2025’s most toxic sagas.

After proposing on Valentine’s Eve and marrying in July, the couple traveled to the UK in October for a concert tour.

The singer missed a scheduled show amid rumors of arrest after an alleged fight with Natasha at Gatwick Airport. He denied it, claiming a medical emergency.

December changed everything. During Daddy Freeze’s Instagram Live, viewers heard heated arguments between 2Baba and Natasha before the broadcast was cut.

Videos then surfaced, allegedly showing his UK arrest and Natasha confronting him at a London airport. His family accused Natasha of violence, claiming she broke bottles over his head. Bizarrely, both posted affectionate content about each other hours later.

Late December brought more confusion. 2Baba posted “Help me” on social media while Annie reverted her Instagram to “Annie Idibia.”

The Edo State Assembly summoned Natasha over misconduct. Then 2Baba posted a video claiming he was okay, didn’t make the “Help me” post, and begged everyone to stop because the attention was putting Natasha at risk.

As we enter 2026, one thing is certain: Nigerian celebrities have set the bar impossibly high (or low, depending on your perspective) for drama, and we’ll all be watching to see who takes the crown for next year’s wildest scandal.

Because if 2025 taught us anything, it’s that in Nigerian entertainment, truth is always stranger than fiction, and social media will make sure we never miss a moment.
