American actor Matthew Perry, renowned for his unforgettable role as Chandler Bing in the beloved 90s sitcom ‘Friends,’ has passed away.

According to TMZ Perry, aged 54, was discovered lifeless in a jacuzzi at a residence in the Los Angeles area on Saturday. His death is attributed to an apparent drowning.

TMZ sources further verify that there was no evidence of drugs found at the scene, and no suspicions of foul play are held in connection with his demise.

Perry was celebrated for his portrayal of Chandler Bing alongside co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer in the legendary TV series ‘Friends.’

His role earned him an Emmy nomination in 2002. Behind the scenes, however, Perry faced significant challenges, notably due to his struggles with substance abuse, particularly painkillers, like Vicodin.

His addiction persisted for years, even during his time on ‘Friends,’ leading to multiple periods of rehabilitation.

In a memoir published last year, Matthew Perry candidly shared the painful experiences he endured, including the weight fluctuations he went through during the show.

He also participated in interviews during his book promotion where he emotionally discussed his journey.

While Perry appeared to be clean and sober a year ago, his condition during the previous year raised concerns among fans.

During promotional events for the ‘Friends’ reunion show, some fans noted moments when he seemed unwell, slurring his words and appearing disoriented.

In addition to his struggles with substance use, Perry faced health issues, including a gastrointestinal perforation that necessitated emergency surgery. Fortunately, he made a successful recovery.

Matthew Perry never married, but he was briefly engaged to Molly Hurwitz a couple of years ago. The engagement ended after just six months.
