Popular gospel singer Frank Edwards has mourned the passing of renowned Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai.

Ukpai, who led one of Nigeria’s most influential evangelistic ministries, died on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. His family confirmed his death in a statement released on Monday, describing it as a “triumphant homegoing” and a “glorious transition.”

The family wrote, “With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. A faithful soldier of the cross has been called to rest.

“Dedicating over six decades of his life to fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching of the Word and prophetic demonstrations of the power of God, he impacted millions of lives and transformed destinies within Nigeria and across the globe.”

The statement further described him as “a spiritual general, loving husband, devoted father, and mentor to many.”

“While we mourn his physical absence, we rejoice that he has finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise,” the family said, adding that details of his burial would be announced later.

Reacting to his death, Frank Edwards shared a personal story of healing from the late preacher’s crusade.

“At age 8 I got healed of asthma and pneumonia in one of your crusades in Enugu,” Edwards wrote on X. “Thank you for impacting the world in a special way. You finished well, Papa. Rest on.”

Tributes have continued to pour in from church leaders, gospel artists, and Christians across Nigeria and abroad, celebrating Ukpai’s lifelong devotion to evangelism and humanitarian work.

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai’s ministry, headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was known for its non-denominational outreach, large crusades, and faith-based teachings that spanned over 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, children, and spiritual protégés.
