A panel established by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, to investigate various offenses within the institution, has recommended disciplinary actions against more than 14 individuals, including staff members and students.
The offenses range from gross misconduct to aiding and abetting exams and fraud.
According to a statement issued by Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, the Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor for Public Relations and Special Duties, the panel’s recommendations include dismissals, suspensions, and expulsions.
Among those implicated are a priest and three lecturers, while multiple students face expulsion for their involvement in various offenses, including aiding and abetting examination misconduct and fraudulent activities.
The statement read, “The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has taken disciplinary actions against the following staff and students for various offenses. A Principal Executive Officer 11, who abandoned his duty post for an extended period, was suspended from duty for six months as a deterrent to other officers. A Senior Executive Officer was suspended for six months on half salary for her involvement in fraudulent financial transactions concerning the university.”
Additionally, a Reverend priest and another individual were accused of aiding and abetting examination misconduct after accepting gratification from students.
Furthermore, one lecturer faced allegations of improperly clearing and graduating a student with 12 outstanding courses.
The panel recommended his dismissal from the university, with the withdrawal of results and the withholding of credentials such as certificates and transcripts.
