Students and teachers narrowly avoided injury on Monday when a four-storey school building gave way in the Aguda area of Ogba, Lagos State.
The PUNCH reports that the structure, which accommodated Yemco Nursery, Primary, and Comprehensive College, is situated at 11 Adudatu Street, behind County Hospital.
The collapse reportedly happened around noon, shortly after the evacuation of students and staff from the premises.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the building fell only a few minutes following the evacuation.
A local resident said, “The building collapsed about three minutes after the students and teachers were moved out of the premises.”
The witness further noted that the structure had previously displayed signs of structural weakness prior to the incident.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, arrived at the scene soon after the collapse.
At the time of reporting, no casualties had been confirmed.
Authorities, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and the school administration, have yet to issue an official statement explaining the cause of the collapse.
