Four people have been killed and five others injured in Ondo city, Ondo State, following a violent clash between rival cult groups.
The incident happened in different parts of the city, including Ife Garage and Sabo, where members of the Ẹiyẹ confraternity were reportedly attacked and shot dead.
According to Channels news, three of the victims were killed at Ife Garage while the fourth was gunned down at Sabo. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
Residents said the shootings caused panic as people ran for safety while businesses quickly shut down.
Confirming the attack, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Olusola Ayanlade, described the victims as known cult members who were already on the police wanted list.
“These individuals were on our radar as members of dangerous cult groups. Investigations are ongoing, and we are working to arrest everyone involved,” Ayanlade said.
He called on the residents to remain calm, saying that the police and other security agencies are working hard to restore peace in the area.
“We want to assure the public that we are in control of the situation. People should go about their daily activities without fear. More officers have been deployed to ensure safety,” he added.
The police also urged anyone with useful information to come forward to help with the investigation.
This is the latest in a series of cult-related violence in Ondo, sparking renewed concern among locals about rising insecurity in the state.
