The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency has confirmed that four people lost their lives in a tragic accident in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The incident occurred when a truck, due to a mechanical fault, crashed into motorcycles and their passengers.

In a statement released by TRACE’s public relations officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the accident was attributed to a brake failure on the truck. The vehicle, which was descending from Itoku en route to Ago-Oba towards Enugada, Lafenwa, lost control and rammed into two motorcycles and a Honda CRV in the area.

Akinbiyi explained, “According to an eyewitness, the truck developed a brake failure while descending from Itoku en route to Ago-Oba towards Enugada, Lafenwa. It rammed into two motorcycles and a Honda CRV, killing the two motorcyclists and the two pillion passengers they were both carrying, while the driver of the Honda CRV was injured.”

Initially, six people were thought to have died in the accident, including the injured Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian. However, they were revived thanks to the efforts of first responders and members of the public who quickly gathered at the scene.

“Unfortunately, the driver and the motor boy disappeared and were nowhere to be found by the time the truck stopped,” Akinbiyi added.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to a hospital by the police.

TRACE, along with the Federal Road Safety Corps and the police, has extended their condolences to the families of the victims.

They also urged motorists to regularly service their vehicles and ensure that all major mechanical components are in good working condition before embarking on any journey.
