At least four residents have been killed after armed attackers invaded Abaushwa village in Ndzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community at about 11:30pm on Monday and opened fire on people who were asleep at the time of the invasion.
According to locals, the gunmen targeted residents during the late-night operation, leaving four people dead while several others sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Community members revealed that a father, his son and daughter were among those killed in the attack, which has heightened concerns among residents over insecurity in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Command, DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations had begun to identify and apprehend those responsible.
“I can confirm that there was an attack in Guma where four persons were killed by suspected bandits; investigations are ongoing to bring the culprits to book,” the PPRO said.
