Four injured as car rams into truck on River Niger bridge

Four persons sustained serious injuries in a motor accident on the bridgehead along Onisha-Asaba route, Onitsha, Anambra state.

The accident, which occurred around 1.33 pm, involved a Toyota Celica with registration number TDU129PX and a Mack Truck with registration number, XD949JJT.

According to reports, the driver of the car was on speed when he suddenly lost control and ran into the moving Mack Truck, leaving the four passengers on board with varying degrees of injuries.

The State Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Pascal Anigbo who confirmed the incident, said It was caused by speed limit violation and loss of control.

He said no death was recorded.

He said:

“At about 1.33pm today Saturday, March 21, 2020 a serious crash involving a Toyota Celica with registration number, TDU129PX and a Mack Truck with registration number, XD949JJT was recorded.

Anigbo said the injured victims were rushed to the Federal Medical Center, Asaba, adding that obstructions had been cleared.

“The Sector Commander, FRSC, Anambra State, Andrew Kumapayi warns motorists against speed limit violations, especially at built-up areas.

“He admonishes road users to always plan their journey, to avoid rushing, which in most cases lead to avoidable road traffic crashes,” he added.
