Four people, including a mother, her daughter, and two others, were found dead in their sleep in Amaeze Community, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The deaths occurred on September 1, 2024.
The cause of the deaths is still unknown. According to reports, the victims had their last meal before going to bed, only to die in their sleep.
HRH Igwe Felix Ugwu, the traditional ruler of the community, confirmed the incident. He said, “The community is deeply shocked by this event. We are yet to recover from the news.”
One of the victims, Mama Chijioke Amaeze, had been caring for her ailing mother at home. The incident also claimed the lives of Mama Amaeze’s sister and daughter.
The police from the Nsukka Division have taken the victims to the hospital for autopsy and investigation. However, the community is also seeking spiritual guidance to understand the cause of the tragedy.
Igwe Ugwu added, “My community has been restless since this incident happened. We have not witnessed anything like this in the history of our community. We are making efforts to determine what could have led to this tragedy.”
