Four suspects have been taken into custody by the Kwara State Police Command in connection with the alleged murder of Abdullahi Audu, the Chief Imam of Tsaragi community in Edu Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin.

“On November 4, 2025, at about 9:30 p.m., one Ibrahim Gana, male, aged 25 years, a resident of Sokunkpan Village in Tsaragi, who had been ill and on admission at a hospital, sadly passed away. Following his death, his brothers Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana accused the Chief Imam of the village, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, of being responsible for their brother’s demise,” Adeyemi stated.

She explained that in a violent reaction, “Muhammad Shaaba and Mahmud Gana allegedly mobilised several other individuals and attacked the Chief Imam with offensive weapons, leading to his death.”

Adeyemi said police operatives immediately launched an investigation into the incident and arrested four suspects, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals linked to the crime.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, condemned the act and warned against taking the law into one’s hands, stressing that such actions constitute serious offences under Nigerian law.

He said, “The police will not tolerate any form of jungle justice. Citizens are advised to report grievances or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through our designated emergency channels.”

Ojo reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring peace, safety, and order across Kwara State, assuring residents that justice would be served.

The police spokesperson added that further updates on the case would be released as investigations progress.
