Nigeria has lost one of its prominent statesmen, retired Lieutenant General Jeremiah Useni, who passed away at the age of 82 following a prolonged illness.

The death of the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory was confirmed on Thursday by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, through a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.

Describing Useni’s death as a significant loss, Governor Mutfwang praised the late general for his outstanding contributions to Plateau State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the country at large.

“His exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment to public service, and dedication to peace and security in Plateau State and northern Nigeria will not be forgotten,” Mutfwang stated.

Useni enjoyed a distinguished career, serving in various capacities, including Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT.

After retiring from military service, he transitioned to politics, where he continued to serve the nation. In 2015, Useni was elected Senator representing Plateau South under the Peoples Democratic Party.

Governor Mutfwang also highlighted Useni’s selflessness, compassion, and dedication to improving the lives of others, noting that his legacy would serve as an inspiration for future generations.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Plateau State, I extend our deepest condolences to his family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and everyone mourning this great loss,” the governor said.
