Burton Albion has reappointed former Chelsea and Netherlands striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their new manager to replace Jake Buxton, who was dismissed following Tuesday’s 4-3 home defeat by Wigan Athletic, the League One (third-tier) club said.

Hasselbaink was first named Burton manager in November 2014 and guided the team to the League Two (fourth-tier) title before leaving to take charge of Queens Park Rangers a year later.

“Burton is a club which is very close to my heart and a really special club for me and my family,” Hasselbaink said in a statement on the club’s website.

Hasselbaink, who played 23 times for the Netherlands, also held coaching positions with Royal Antwerp and Northampton Town.
