The Federal Government has given all foreigners whose visas have expired three months to leave Nigeria without paying any fines.

This announcement was made on Friday, May 2, 2025, by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi.

According to the statement, the grace period will end on August 1, 2025. After this date, foreigners who remain in the country with expired visas will face strict penalties.

“Overstaying now attracts daily fines of $15, plus bans of up to five years or permanent blacklisting,” the statement warned.

The Immigration Service said the new policy is meant to encourage people to obey immigration laws and help clean up the system.

It also introduced new online requirements for travelers. From now on, all foreigners entering Nigeria must fill out a landing card online, while those leaving must complete an exit card. Both forms are available at lecard.immigration.gov.ng.

The NIS advised travelers to comply with the new rules to avoid any problems at airports and borders.
