Congolese Singer Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba, also known as Koffi Olomide has been sent to jail for a year for assaulting a female dancer in Kenya, according to reports.

Koffi Olomide was arrested on Tuesday at his home in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It was reported that he was taken to court shortly after and charged with the crime. He was found guilty and sentenced to a year in jail.

Olomide denied assaulting one of his dancers identified as Pamela. His lawyer George Wajackoyah also accused police of manhandling the musician.

The soukous performer apologised in a Facebook post on Monday, terming the incident a “moment of madness”.

The dancer, introduced as Pamela, went ahead to deny that she had been attacked by her boss and showered praises on the singer.

“Koffi Olomide never attacked me at the airport… and he’s not an aggressive nor violent man,” she said.

He has faced widespread condemnation and outrage since the video of the incident at JKIA was shared on social media.

Kenyans on Twitter called for his immediate arrest and deportation after the assault.

Olomide was deported to Kinshasa, DRC, by Kenya Airways after spending a night in police custody last week.

In 2012 he was convicted of assaulting his producer, and received a three-month suspended sentence. Four years earlier, in 2008 he had been accused of kicking a cameraman at a concert in Kinshasa though the matter was resolved out of court.
