Food prices reduce in Lagos, Ogun markets despite fuel scarcity
Despite the fuel scarcity ravaging the country, the prices of some food items in some Lagos and Ogun States’ markets have reduced.
According to a market survey by WuzupNigeria the cost of a few food items like tomatoes, pepper has reduced.
When our correspondent visited the Ogba market in Lagos for example, she was told a bag of tomatoes which was sold for between N30,000 and N35,000 now sells for N24,000.
The story is not different from prices of the items in Akute and the Alagbole markets of Lagos and Ogun.
A pepper seller told our correspondent a bag of tomatoes which was sold for N35,000 is now N25,000.
He added that he sells a tray of tomatoes for N400 and N500.
He also said a basket of Tatashe which was sold for N12,000 is now sold for N10,000.
He said he sells a tray of Rodo for N400.
When asked how much a bag of Rodo costs, he said, “We now sell a bag of Rodo N20,000 but before now we sold for N22,000.
“A bag of Shombo which was sold for between N10,000 and N12,000 now sells for N8,000.”
Nevertheless, there are indications that the prices of these commodities might increase if the scarcity of fuel was not checked.
