Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his economic decisions, saying they are already bringing down the prices of food, fuel, and other commodities.
The governor made this statement during a Special Iftar (breaking of fast) with the League of Imams and Alfas at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta.
According to Abiodun, Tinubu’s bold steps in removing fuel subsidies and allowing market forces to determine exchange rates are paying off, leading to a steady fall in prices — a rare situation during Ramadan.
“This is the first time in the history of this country that we will be fasting while food prices are coming down,” Abiodun said.
He added, “Recently, I was commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for doing what other presidents before him couldn’t do. On his first day in office, he removed the subsidy. He also allowed market forces to decide exchange rates. Now, the exchange rate is stable, and the prices of food and petrol are dropping.”
The governor further noted that inflation, which many Nigerians had feared, is also easing.
“Inflation is coming down. The price of petrol is dropping every week. I congratulate him on this feat,” he said.
Abiodun also credited the peace and religious tolerance in Ogun State to the efforts of faith leaders. He praised the League of Imams and Alfas for guiding the youth with messages of hope and peace, saying this has helped maintain stability in the state since he became governor in 2019.
“We have enjoyed religious tolerance in Ogun State. Christians practice their faith, Muslims practice theirs, and we all coexist peacefully,” he said.
He added, “Your messages have softened the hearts of many youths and made them partners in our developmental drive. Without peace, we cannot govern, and without peace, there can be no meaningful development.”
Governor Abiodun also promised that the Secretariat for the League of Imams and Alfas, which his administration pledged to build, would be completed and commissioned before the end of his tenure.
In response, the Asiwaju Adeen of Ogun State, Alhaji Shamsudeen Adebayo Apelogun, commended the governor for fostering religious harmony and creating an environment where all faiths can thrive.
