Renowned food critic Opeyemi Famakin and entertainment mogul Cubana Chiefpriest have stirred up a heated debate on social media after Famakin posted a viral video critiquing a “microwaved burger” from a food outlet owned by Chiefpriest.
The video has divided food lovers, sparking strong reactions from fans and critics alike.
The controversy began when Opeyemi Famakin, known for his blunt reviews of both local and international cuisines, shared a detailed critique on his Instagram page.
Famakin praised the restaurant’s look and atmosphere but criticized the pastries, claiming they were pre-made and microwaved, which, according to him, negatively affected their quality.
In response, Cubana Chiefpriest left a polite comment on Famakin’s post, saying, “Thank you for visiting, Foodie. Wishing you all the best!”
However, the situation escalated when Famakin accused Chiefpriest of threatening him over the review. Famakin shared screenshots of their private conversation, claiming, “I Know A Threat When I See One, I guess It’s Time To Leave Imo State ASAP. If anything happens to me while I am here, well, you know who to hold. I love how he was polite in the comment section for the world to see and it was a different tone in my DM’s.”
Cubana Chiefpriest responded on his Instagram story, denying the threat and accusing Famakin of deliberately setting up the review.
He shared CCTV footage and stated, “You asked them to microwave the burger for you. Stood there and waited for them to do it, then you turned around to sit down and now use it for content.” He added, “If you don’t like burger microwaved, then why did you not stop them, rather you stood there to sh**t the rest of your content as you waited for them to heat up the burger as requested.”
Famakin shot back, calling Chiefpriest’s response a “beautiful PR reply,” and added, “Shout out to the person that cooked this lie.”

The back-and-forth between the two has kept social media buzzing, with various reactions from the public.
@olayemiadunbiode commented: “Provide video that is audible enough for all Nigerians to hear him say that your staff should microwave what he bought… Every professional knows putting pastries in a microwave is a no no… You either use a hot oven or a hot grill… Also you don’t have to sell the ones on display… All ingredients can be prepped down and put together in minutes just like shawarma… Well how will a 6 years old know all this 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️”
@kastropee_ added: “But wait he was standing there na how come them microwave your food and you don’t know? And besides for the restaurants i have been to nobody will microwave your food without seeking permission from you abi?”
@creativeoliver shared: “He asked them to HEAT IT UP and they rushed to put it inside microwave… The problem here is understanding common English. You can’t even microwave pastries… na Egusi soup??🤦🏾♂️”
@r.u.t.h_i.e.e remarked: “Being able to accept constructive criticism is important fr. What is this?”
@brandybride said: “A food critic saying burger cannot be microwaved? Burger can be microwaved for up to 1 minute depending on the bread and meat used. You can’t be reviewing food based on your taste bud and assumptions, maybe get certified as a food critic and do proper reviews.”
@ademola1025 pointed out: “We still have a long way to go as a country. How did food review become tribal war is unbelievable. This is done all over the world by food bloggers. As business owner, criticizing your food gives you the leverage to improve and be better. Work on the error and invite the blogger back, that can even be your break.”
@olowuife expressed: “Everything in this country is Tribal, I am sick of 😂 reading comments. Which one is Yoruba like bringing Igbo peoples business down…. Enough of tribal wars Abeg……… Abeg.”
@boots.and.more noted: “If not for Opeyemi, I wouldn’t even know he has a restaurant but then just let it go and move on ☹️”
@callme_miwa recalled: “Opeyemi once said when something is good, he would say something is good.”
