Ondo: Fleeing robbers slit security guard’s throat
A 58-year-old man, identified as Kasali Ajeigbe, has been killed by suspected armed robbers in Ondo town, Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The deceased was said to be a member of the vigilante group in the community and also worked as a guard in a sawmill in the area.
It was gathered that the robbers were being pursued by policemen after a failed operation in the town.
The bandits were said to have met the deceased while trying to escape and attacked him.
The deceased’s brother, Saheed, who spoke on the incident, alleged that Fulani herdsmen killed Kasali, saying his late brother was waiting for a taxi on the road when the herdsmen attacked him.
He said, “My late brother was to his duty post and while he was returning home, he stood by the roadside looking for a motorcycle or taxi to convey him home.
“Some Fulani men, who were being chased by policemen from Oke-Igbo town, where they went to rob, attacked him where he was standing and slit his throat with a knife.
“A team of policemen came to the scene and rushed him to hospital, where he was confirmed dead, and his body was deposited in a mortuary.”
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, said the command had begun investigation into the matter.
“We have commenced investigation into the matter, but there is no proof that herdsmen killed the victim,” the PPRO stated.
