Five people are reportedly missing in the Taraba State section of River Benue after a boat accident over the weekend.
The boat was said to be carrying 14 passengers from Mayo-Reniwo village in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area to a village in Karim-Lamido Local Government before capsized midway into the journey.
Taraba State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP. Abdulahi Usman, confirmed the accident to newsmen in Jalingo, the state capital.
He said a search is still on for five of the fourteen passengers as only nine of them were rescued. He said there is a likelihood that those missing passengers may have drowned.
The PUNCH mentioned that one of the missing passengers is Rev. Shedrack Bako, a pastor with the Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria.
When contacted, Taraba State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Isaiah Magaji said he was aware of a boat mishap, but could not ascertain the calibre of persons involved in the accident.
“I am yet to get a clear picture of the incident because the reports that are available to me now are very scanty. I am still expecting detail report of what actually happened and who are the people involved,” he said.
