Five people have died and seven others were injured in a serious road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday.

The crash happened around 1:39 p.m. near Car Park C, Mowe. It involved a yellow Mazda bus with the registration number LGB 465 XA and an ash-coloured Howo truck with no number plate.

Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred when the truck, which was speeding, lost control due to brake failure and hit the bus while it was making a turn.

Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident. She said, “A total of 12 passengers—seven male adults and five female adults—were involved in the crash. Two male adults and three female adults were confirmed dead, while five male adults and two female adults sustained injuries.”

Okpe said those injured were taken to Famobis Hospital in Mowe for treatment, while the bodies of the dead were deposited at Idera Morgue.

She explained that the crash was caused by speeding, brake failure, and the truck driver losing control of the vehicle.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun State, Akinwumi Fasakin, sent his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for quick recovery for the injured.

He advised drivers to always stay focused, obey speed limits, and be careful when driving. He also encouraged fleet operators to install speed-limiting devices and carry out regular checks on their vehicles.

Fasakin warned that road safety must be taken seriously to avoid more accidents on Nigerian roads.
