Five people have reportedly lost their lives in a fire accident involving a petrol-laden tanker and other vehicles in Felele along Lokoja-Abuja highway in Kogi State on Monday morning.
Several vehicles including a tricycle popularly known as Keke were burnt as the tanker exploded after the accident, also leaving many people injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the fuel tanker driver lost control as he was descending from the NNPC station which is said to be on the sloppy section of the highway.
An eyewitness identified simply as Ikechukwu said:
“The accident occurred around 8 am. The tanker’s brake failed while descending from NNPC.
“Vehicles heading towards this part of the road always slow down when they are approaching, but because the brake of the truck had failed, the driver lost control and could not control the speed.
“The truck rammed into other vehicles and exploded at this point leading to loss of lives.”
