First Bank building collapses in Abia

A part of the First Bank building on Library Avenue in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, collapsed on Saturday afternoon, causing panic in the area, according to the PUNCH report.

The incident happened in the busy commercial district that hosts several banks, offices, and shops.

As of the time of filing this report, details about casualties or the level of damage were not yet confirmed. However, emergency responders and security officials have arrived at the scene to assess the situation and secure the area.

An eyewitness said the collapse was sudden and happened outside regular working hours. The source added that parts of the structure caved in unexpectedly, forcing traders and passersby to run for safety.

“The whole thing happened suddenly. We just heard a loud noise and saw people running away,” the witness said.

The management of First Bank has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
