First Bank of Nigeria has started the construction of its new 40-storey head office at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos, with a groundbreaking ceremony held on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the Acting Group Head, Marketing & Corporate Communications, Olayinka Ijabiyi, the new building is set to be the tallest in Nigeria. It will be a green-certified structure, designed with modern technology and eco-friendly features.
“It will be an engineering and environmental delight due to its technologically advanced, eco-friendly, and sophisticated construction, which would set a new standard for the financial services sector in Africa,” the statement read.
The bank said the project reflects its commitment to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction. The green certification means the building will reduce operational costs and show First Bank’s focus on sustainable banking practices.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Group, Olusegun Alebiosu, described the groundbreaking as a major step forward for the bank.
“Our new Head Office is envisioned as a world-class structure that represents our dedication to innovation, customer satisfaction, and sustainability. We believe that this development will play a crucial role in fostering economic growth and development across Africa, creating long-term value for all our stakeholders,” Alebiosu said.
The Chairman of FirstHoldCo, Femi Otedola, also highlighted the importance of cooperation from different sectors in making the project a reality.
“Today’s gathering highlights the importance of collaboration and support from various sectors in bringing our ambitious plans for the new headquarters to life. We appreciate the unrelenting support from our customers and stakeholders as we work together to turn this vision into reality,” Otedola said.
The event was attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with Senators, State Governors, Federal Ministers, and industry leaders.
