A fire incident occurred on Friday at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja, causing brief panic among staff.

The fire, which started after workers resumed for the day, was caused by a spark from a faulty circuit breaker on the ground floor.

The fire was quickly contained, preventing major damage. Confirming the incident, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed A. Ahmed, described it as minor.

He said, “A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of the Ministry. It was caused by a spark from a faulty circuit breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor.”

The quick response from the Federal Fire Service was praised. “The Station Commander, Mr. Kekai Bekebi, informed me that his team acted swiftly, using fire extinguishers to bring the situation under control. A successful evacuation of staff was also carried out,” Ahmed added.

Director of Human Resource Management, Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi, assured that no documents were lost and no injuries or casualties were recorded. He also commended the staff for their calm behavior during the incident.

Normal activities have since resumed at the ministry, with maintenance staff cleaning up the affected area.
