Residents in Onipanu area of Mushin in Lagos were thrown into shock on Thursday after a residential building was engulfed by fire.
Although the source of the fire is yet to be ascertained, WUZUPNIGERIA gathered that officials of the Lagos State firefighters are currently combating the fire at the building located on No 9 Majolate Street Onipanu, Mushin Lagos.
Reports of casualty remain hazy at the time of filing in this report as sources say they cannot confirm if there was an occupant in the building when the fire started.
An eyewitness who lives close to the affected building told WUZUPNIGERIA that she fled her apartment with her about six months old baby due to fears the fire could spread to other buildings.
According to the witness who craved anonymity, initial attempts to reach the state’s emergency service proved abortive.
“Their number is not going and the fire is not going down at all, it’s spreading gradually and it is getting serious by the minute,” she said.
However, the firefighter were said to have shown up after about 30 minutes and are using all resource at their disposal to combat the fire.
“The fire service truck has arrived, they are trying to contain the fire,” she added.
Our correspondent gathered that there has been no electricity on the street since Tuesday night raising speculations that the fire could have started from the kitchen in the building.
