Fire razes Lagos sawmill, destroys goods worth millions

A fierce fire wreaked havoc on a sawmill along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, near Awori Bus Stop, Abule Egba, Lagos, on Sunday, causing extensive damage to planks and other valuables estimated at millions of Naira.

Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, were on the scene, tirelessly battling the flames as of the latest update at 4:30 pm.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the fire erupted at approximately 3:47 pm, engulfing the expansive sawmill premises.

Affected traders, desperate to salvage their goods, rushed to the burning market to minimize losses amid the chaos.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, provided reassurance that the situation was under control, with efforts focused on preventing the fire from spreading beyond the sawmill.

She stated, “Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the incident.”
