Fire razes Ladipo plank market in Lagos

A midnight fire on November 1, 2023 destroyed several goods and property worth millions of naira at the popular Ladipo Plank Market Amukoko, Iganmu Road, Orile, Lagos State.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed that there was no loss of life in the incident.

Oke-Osanyitolu said, “The agency responded to distress calls and arrived at the above scene of the incident to discover that the plank market was being gutted by fire.

“Fortunately, there is no loss of life. However, goods and property yet to be enumerated have been destroyed due to the inferno.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but eyewitnesses said it started around 12:30 a.m. in the main market.

LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, and Federal Fire Service were on the scene as of 6 a.m. to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the market.
