A fire outbreak in the early hours of Monday destroyed a four-bedroom flat at No. 1 Happiness Close, Akufo Estate in the Elebu area of Ibadan.

Mr Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, confirmed the incident.

He said the fire service received a distress call at exactly 1:13 a.m. and quickly sent a team to the scene.

“When our team got there, the four-bedroom flat was already in flames,” Akinyinka said. “The firemen acted fast and were able to stop the fire from spreading to other houses nearby.”

He added that the fire officers also helped to rescue the family living in the building.

“No lives were lost, and there were no injuries,” he stated.

Akinyinka explained that the fire started due to overheating of a solar panel in the house. He said the heat caused the panel to catch fire, which then spread to other materials around it.

He advised residents to regularly check and maintain solar panels and other electrical systems to avoid such accidents.
