Fire razes building, kills 80-year-old woman in Ogun

An 80-year-old woman, Mariam Salako, lost her life in a fire that destroyed a building early Saturday morning in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The incident happened at No. 28 Ifelodun, Ago Ka area.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the tragedy. She said, “Around 1:00 a.m., a distress call was received about a house on fire at Ago Ka area. The Area Commander quickly led a team of officers to the scene, while the fire service was called for help.”

The Ogun State Fire Service responded and was able to bring the fire under control. Sadly, Mrs. Salako, who lived in the building, was unable to escape the flames and died in the incident.

Odutola also mentioned that a man known as Baba Ali, whose age was not specified, was asleep during the fire. “He was rescued through a window by community members,” she added.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and the remains of the deceased have been taken to the morgue.
