A devastating fire has swept through the Muna Alamdari Internally Displaced Persons camp in Maiduguri, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives and the destruction of more than 1,000 houses.
According to reports, the fire erupted at approximately 6 am and raged for over an hour before fire service personnel managed to bring it under control.
The Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Barkindo Muhammad, expressed the severity of the situation on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
Dr. Muhammad stated, “The IDPs, Civilian Joint Task Force, security agencies, and some good Samaritans also assisted in putting out the fire.”
Muhammad highlighted the immediate steps being taken to provide humanitarian support to the victims. “We are immediately providing 500 bags of rice, blankets, as well as other non-food items to mitigate their suffering,” he assured.
