A fire broke out in a residential building in central Moscow, resulting in the deaths of three people and leaving four others injured, the Main Investigative Directorate of Russia’s Investigative Committee for Moscow reported, APA’s Russia bureau says.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze, with preliminary findings pointing to careless handling of fire.
A law enforcement source said the incident started as a result of smoking inside the apartment.
Further details revealed that circus performer Yevgeny Chernov was involved in the accident.
According to reports, Chernov had fallen asleep while smoking in a chair at his home, which led to the fire.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to assess the full circumstances surrounding the deadly blaze.
