According to the VANGUARD, an eyewitness, Mr. Tunde Are, stated that the raging inferno, occurred at about 11 am as people ran helter-skelter to contain the fire outbreak before rescue team arrived.

As of press time, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, were still battling to put off the raging fire.

The inferno, it was gathered resulted from a spillage of petroleum products within the perimeter of the terminal

The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, while confirming the unfortunate incident said concerted effort with various emergency responders within the oil and gas industry was on to contain the situation.

“The public are hereby assured that the emergency operation is under control from escalating further,” Adeseye stated.

The NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, has however refuted the claim that the fire was from them stating that it was from the Honey Well Oil and Gas Limited pipeline describing the report of the Lagos state Fire Service as false.

He said “It is not at the NNPC, but at HOGL. The fire is at a pipeline at HOGL. The fire has since been extinguished. It’s at the Honeywell depot but it has now been extinguished. Not NNPC.”
