A massive fire has engulfed the Oko Baba plank market in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.
The fire broke out on Sunday, affecting several structures and shanties within the market.
Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency are currently on the scene, working to control the fire and carry out search and rescue operations.
An eyewitness, Adedeji Olalekan, who goes by the handle #Stylomedia on social media, shared live updates on the incident. He tweeted, “Okobaba Street is on fire now, all the shanties are burning.”
LASEMA’s spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, confirmed the incident in a brief message on WhatsApp. He stated, “LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in search and rescue operation at Oko Baba plank market by Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta.”
As of now, the cause of the fire is unknown, and no official reports on casualties have been released.
