Fire guts federal secretariat
A fire incident occurred at the Federal Secretariat on Saturday, causing significant damage to the building’s electrical utility systems.
The fire, which originated from an uncontrolled explosion in the electrical utility room, disrupted operations and necessitated the intervention of fire personnel from both the Federal and FCT Fire Services.
According to a statement released by the Director of Communications for the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Muhammed Ahmed, the incident commenced around 2:30 pm and affected the Utility Rooms located on the second to the eighth floors of Block C in the Federal Secretariat, Phase II, Abuja.
Ahmed explained that the fire was caused by an explosion in the Electrical Utility Room, which was being utilized as a Solar and Inverter Room by the current occupant, the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development Goals.
“At about 2.30 pm. today, there was a fire incident at the Block C of the Federal Secretariat, Phase II, Abuja. The fire was triggered by an explosion from the Electrical Utility Room on the Third Floor of Block C being used as a Solar and Inverter Room by the present occupant, Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development Goals.
“The incident, which was brought under control by the prompt response of personnel from the Federal, as well as the FCT Fire Services at about 5 p.m., affected the Utility Rooms on the second to the eighth floors of the building,” he said.
