The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed a fire outbreak at the Ago Medical Centre, off Ago Palace Road, Lagos, on Friday evening.

According to a preliminary report from LASEMA, the agency received distress calls through the 767/112 emergency lines at 6:29 pm.

They promptly activated their emergency response plan, dispatching their team from the Cappa Base, Oshodi.

Upon arrival at 6:50 pm, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team discovered that parts of the story building housing the hospital were already engulfed in flames.

“Preliminary investigations conducted by LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team revealed that the immediate cause of the inferno was electrical surge which led to a spark when public electricity power supply was restored,” the report stated.

Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries recorded, as confirmed by Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA.

Efforts to control the fire involved a coordinated response from various emergency agencies, including the LASEMA Response Team, the LASEMA Fire Unit, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigeria Police Force.

As of the time of this report, responders are still at the scene, battling the flames and working to fully contain the situation.

Further updates are expected as the recovery efforts continue.
