Fire engulfs Alao-Akala’s residence, claims lives

The residence of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, located in Ogbomoso, was engulfed in flames, resulting in casualties.

A family source, confirming the unfortunate incident to PUNCH Online, stated that the fire, believed to be caused by a power surge between 7.30 am and 8 am, led to the loss of one life and left several others injured.

The source revealed, “Yes, it is true. We experienced power surge this morning, and it consumed one person. One person also sustained serious injuries.”

However, another source indicated that the toll might be higher, with many individuals sustaining injuries.

The Sector Commandant of the Ogbomoso command of the State Fire Service, Mr. Oluwaseyi Awogbile, confirmed the incident, stating that the fire outbreak occurred around 7:30 am on Monday.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

Mr. Awogbile assured that the fire had been successfully extinguished to prevent further spread.

An eyewitness, speaking anonymously, suggested that the fire originated from a gas explosion, leading to the death of two individuals, while another was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

A prominent political figure, Adebayo Alao-Akala served as the governor of Oyo State from 2006 to 2011 and was a member of the All Progressive Congress until his demise.

He passed away on January 12, 2022, at the age of 71 in Ogbomoso.
