A fierce fire on Tuesday destroyed two churches and a furniture shop in the Felele area of Ibadan, causing property damage worth millions of naira.

Fortunately, no lives were lost, thanks to the quick action of firefighters who prevented the fire from spreading further.

The General Manager of Fire Services in Oyo State, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident to Vanguard.

He said the fire was reported at No. 51, Debo Plaza, opposite Lam Adesina Junction in Felele, Ibadan.

Akinyinka stated, “Two churches—the Redeemed Christian Church of God and a New Covenant parish—along with a furniture shop, were affected.”

He praised the firefighters for their swift response, saying, “Firefighters quickly responded and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.”

He added that the fire mainly consumed plastic chairs and PVC materials used for ceiling decorations, which were completely destroyed.

A local resident, Mrs. Dauda Ireoluwa, mentioned that the cause of the fire remains unclear. “We all rushed out after receiving distress calls. When we arrived, the shop was already engulfed in flames,” she said.
