A fire has destroyed the shop of popular TikTok personality, Rahama Saidu, along UDB Road in the Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident happened on Thursday night, just hours after officials from the Kano Urban Planning and Development Authority demolished part of the shop, claiming it was built illegally on public land.

Although the cause of the fire has not been confirmed, an eyewitness at the scene said it may have started due to sparks from welding work in a nearby shop. That shop was also undergoing repairs after being affected by the same demolition exercise.

After the demolition, Rahama came and cleared all her belongings from the shop.

Rahama Saidu had earlier expressed sadness over the demolition of part of her shop. The action by KNUPDA followed the earlier removal of her signboard, which the agency said was placed on a public pathway.

In response, Saidu filed a complaint with the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, which led the Commission to summon KNUPDA officials for questioning.

However, KNUPDA later intensified its enforcement in the Tarauni area, demolishing more shops they claimed were on public land — including Rahama’s.

The fire also affected a nearby photographer’s shop.

Following the incident, police officers were seen at the scene, cordoning off the area to prevent possible looting.
