A fire broke out early on Friday, damaging part of the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road, in the Ogba area of Lagos.
The fire started around 2:20 am, affecting a two-story building at the quarters.
The blaze hit one of the two-bedroom apartments in Flat 5 of Block 21, a three-story building with 16 two-bedroom flats.
A preliminary investigation by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency revealed that the fire began from an electrical surge in the children’s room.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, stated that the fire completely destroyed the children’s bedroom, causing a loss of properties worth millions of naira.
“The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, ensured the fire was contained and extinguished quickly,” said Oke-Osanyitolu.
He added, “Fortunately, there was no loss of life and no injuries sustained in the incident. Also, victims and other occupants were enlightened on the proper use of electric appliances.”
By 5 am, personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and the Nigerian Police were still working to fully control the situation.
