Heartbroken and distraught, Nigerians have taken to social media to lament the gruesome murder of Iniubong Umoren, the young female jobseeker who disappeared after allegedly honouring a job invitation in Akwa Ibom State.

WuzupNigeria reported that Umoren got a job invitation on Twitter on April 27th but went missing on April 29th, after she was reported to have met her interviewer at Ibiaku, Ibiono Ibom, area of the state.

About 24-hours after the story went viral, all fingers pointed to her interviewer, Uduak Frank Akpan, who initially denied holding the victim hostage but reports later revealed that he was allegedly involved, alongside his father and cousin, whose identities remain unknown.

However,  Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s spokesperson, Odiko Macdon, notified Nigerians that two persons have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of the job-seeker.

The news of Umoren’s death on Sunday morning has left thousands of Nigerians with a sore heart as their efforts to find Umoren alive were dashed days after.

The revelation has since drawn reactions from Nigerian celebrities who have not only condemned the act but called on the government to bring the perpetrators to justice and, at the same time, called on others to be cautious of monsters preying on people’s innocence on social media.

Dr. Dípò Awójídé, an educator and brand influencer, noted that despite following all safety precaution, Umoren still got kidnapped and killed while searching for a job. He warned that the government needs to increase the crackdown on criminality.

Reacting to the shocking news, popular human rights activist, Segun Awosanya, fondly called Segalink, lamented that our youth are becoming monsters, urging the government that the perpetrators must be made a public example. He also called on others to be cautious as there are dangers that lurk behind the blind trust on social media.

In the same vein, popular online doctor, Nonso Egemba aka Aproko Doctor, urged the Nigerian government to revisit the rule that states that a person is not declared missing until after 48-hours. He noted that the first hours of a potential missing person are critical especially if there are clear indications that something is amiss. He also suspected that apart from Uduak’s father and cousin that were allegedly involved in Umoren’s murder, there might be others who know about it.

Heartbroken by the news of Umoren’s death, comedian and skit maker, Debo Adebayo also known as Mr Macaroni, lamented the government’s negligence and failure to curb killings and kidnappings in the country.

Meanwhile, Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy bemoaned that spate of psychopathy behaviours making life hard for Nigerians to live in peace; “from shameless leaders to disgusting child molesters to just random sick fucks raping and murdering innocent girls.”
