Films should not be for entertainment only – Bolt Odimayo

Published

Actress and filmmaker, O.T Bolt Odimayo has said that films should not be for entertainment purpose only.

Speaking with Saturday Beats, the actress advised storytellers to tell stories people can learn from.

“Most of my stories are driven by my personal experiences and happenings around me. My recent movie, ‘Owo o oteru’, was actually inspired by a real life event. As storytellers, it is up to us to tell stories society can learn from. I want to continue changing the way people view Nollywood. I believe films should not be for entertainment purposes alone. They should also teach invaluable lessons that would help the audience to be better people. Before I put out any content, I make sure it is something that can impact people positively. I always feel happy when people tell me that my movies changed their lives.”

Odimayo who is based in the US advised movie producers to look beyond depending on the sale of compact disc to generate revenue for the movies.

She stated,

“As far as I’m concerned, filmmaking is absolutely rewarding. If not, many veterans and legends would have quit a long time ago. With good scripting, state-of-the-art cameras, among other factors, the audience will come for one’s brand. Filmmakers should also make the most of online TVs and cinemas. Gone are the days when people depended only on selling CDs. There are many Nigerians in Diaspora who are always on the lookout for content from home and that is a largely untapped market. There is a lot of money to be made on the Internet and I would advise my colleagues to focus more on that area.”
